BURSITIS SWELLING AT THE ELBOW
Elbow bursitis swelling is an inflammation of fluid-filled sacs around the elbow joint called bursae. These sacs are designed to help the joint function properly and reduce friction. However, conditions such as overuse, trauma, infection or rheumatoid arthritis can lead to inflammation of the bursa.
CAUSES
Friction and Pressure:
The elbow bursa is designed to reduce friction on the elbow. However, repeated friction or pressure can cause these sacs to become inflamed.
Trauma and Injuries:
Falls, blows or other traumatic events can lead to bursitis swelling.
Infection:
Bacterial or other infections can affect the elbow bursa and cause inflammation.
Overuse:
Repetitive repetitive movements, especially in occupations that put constant pressure on the elbow, can contribute to bursitis swelling.
Rheumatoid Arthritis and Other Rheumatologic Diseases:
Rheumatologic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, can cause inflammation of the joints by the immune system.
SYMPTOMS
Swelling:
Significant swelling in the elbow area.
Pain:
Pain in the elbow area due to an inflamed bursa.
Redness and Heat:
Redness and heat in the elbow area as a result of inflammation.
Movement Restriction:
Limitation of elbow movements due to swelling and pain.
NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT METHODS FOR BURSITIS SWELLING IN THE ELBOW
Recreation and Activity Organization:
Resting the inflamed area and avoiding repetitive activities.
Cold Application:
Cold application to reduce swelling and control pain.
Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs):
Can be used under doctor’s supervision to reduce inflammation and pain.
Bursa Aspiration:
Withdrawal of fluid accumulated in the bursa.
SURGICAL TREATMENT METHODS IN BURSITIS SWELLING IN THE ELBOW
Bursal Fluid Drainage and Steroid Injection:
Removal of fluid from the bursa and steroid injection.
Antibiotic Therapy in Case of Infection:
Appropriate antibiotic treatment in case of bacterial infection.
Surgical Drainage:
In severe cases, drainage of the fluid in the bursa by surgical intervention.
