HEEL THISTLE
Heel spur is a painful condition caused by micro-tearing and inflammation of the tissue called plantar fascia under the heel bone. Plantar fascia is a connective tissue that extends from the heel bone on the sole of the foot to the fingertips. This inflammation and irritation is called heel spur, but the name heel spur usually refers to the symptoms of this condition.
Causes:
Overload and Activity:
Activities such as prolonged standing, high heels, running or walking that constantly load the soles of the feet.
Foot Structure:
Having flat feet or high arches can increase the pressure on the plantar fascia.
Age:
Loss of elasticity of tendons and connective tissues with ageing.
Obesity:
Being overweight can affect the plantar fascia by increasing the load on the sole of the foot.
Shoe Selection:
Unsupported or incorrectly shaped shoes can irritate the plantar fascia.
Non-Surgical Treatment Methods:
Rest and Rest:
It is important to rest the feet for the healing of painful conditions.
Foot Baths and Cold Packs:
Hot water baths or cold packs can be used to soothe the feet and reduce inflammation.
Foot Exercises:
Exercises that strengthen the foot muscles and increase flexibility.
Shoe Change:
Choosing comfortable, supportive and correctly sized shoes.
Orthotics:
Using special insoles that support the arch of the foot.
Anti-inflammatory Drugs: Painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs recommended by the doctor.
Surgical Treatment Methods:
Plantar Fasciitis Injections:
Injecting substances such as steroids or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the painful area.
Achilles Tendon Incision:
This can be a surgical procedure that involves cutting part of the Achilles tendon, which can reduce the tension on the plantar fascia.
Fascia Surgery (Fasciotomy):
Partial cutting of the plantar fascia, which can relieve pain by reducing tension.
Heel Spur Surgery (Heel Bone Removal):
The heel spur that causes pain can be removed, but this is generally not recommended for the treatment of plantar fasciitis.
