STRETCHING OF NECK MUSCLES AND LIGAMENTS

Stretching of the neck muscles and ligaments is a condition that can occur for various reasons. This condition occurs as a result of overstrain or injury to the muscles and connective tissues in the neck area.

CAUSES

Trauma and Accident:
Traumatic events such as car accidents, falls or sports accidents can cause the neck muscles and ligaments to strain.
Sudden Movements and Strains:
Sudden violent head movements, lifting loads or sudden turning can cause strains in the neck muscles and ligaments.
Bad Posture Habits:
Consistently poor posture habits can cause tension in the muscles and ligaments in the neck area.
Stress and Tension:
Stress and tension can compress muscles in the body and cause tension in the neck area.
Excessive Exercise or Activity:
Excessive exercise, especially activities that overstrain the neck area, can lead to strains in the muscles and ligaments.
Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Joint diseases in the neck, especially osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, can affect the health of muscles and ligaments.

SYMPTOMS

Pain and Swelling:
Pain and swelling in the neck area are among the most common symptoms.
Movement Restriction:
Stretching of muscles and ligaments can cause restriction of neck movements.
Neck Stiffness:
Muscle and ligament strains can cause a feeling of stiffness in the neck area.
Headache:
Neck problems can often also cause headaches.

TREATMENT METHODS
NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT METHODS FOR NECK MUSCLE AND LIGAMENT STRAIN

Rest and Activity Restriction:

Rest is important for the muscles and ligaments to heal. Activity restriction and avoidance of overly strenuous movements are recommended.
Cold or Hot Application:
Cold application in the first 48 hours can reduce swelling. Afterwards, hot application can support healing by increasing blood circulation.
Painkillers and Anti-inflammatories:
Painkillers and anti-inflammatories used on doctor’s advice can reduce pain and inflammation.

Physical Therapy and Exercise:Physical therapy programs may be recommended for muscle strengthening and flexibility. Exercises guided by a specialized physiotherapist can accelerate recovery.
Massage and Manual Therapy:
Massage or manual therapy by a qualified physiotherapist can reduce muscle tension and promote healing.
Use of Supportive Equipment in the Neck:
Neck support pillows or cervical collars can speed recovery by supporting muscles and ligaments.

SURGICAL TREATMENT METHODS IN NECK MUSCLE AND LIGAMENT STRAIN

In case of severe muscle or ligament damage, surgical intervention may be considered. However, usually surgical treatment is rarely necessary.
