MECHANICAL LOW BACK PAIN

Mechanical low back pain is a type of low back pain that is usually caused by changes in the structure of the spine or problems with the musculoskeletal system. The pain is usually felt in the lumbar region and often increases or decreases with certain movements. Here are the causes, surgical and non-surgical treatment methods for mechanical low back pain:

Causes:
Disc Problems:
Discs are cushion-like structures located between the vertebrae and may degenerate over time or disc herniation (hernia) may develop.
Facet Joint Problems:
Damage or inflammation of the facet joint surfaces on the spine can cause mechanical low back pain.
Muscle Tension or Strain:
Tension, spasm or strain in the muscles can lead to low back pain. Long-term poor posture, heavy lifting or sudden movements can trigger this condition.
Ligament Problems:
Strains or tears in the ligaments on the spine can also cause low back pain.
Posture Problems:
Incorrect posture or poor ergonomics can trigger low back pain.

Non-Surgical Treatment Methods:
Rest:
When experiencing low back pain, it can be important to rest for a while. However, prolonged bed rest is generally not recommended.
Physiotherapy:
In the management of low back pain, physical therapy aims to provide muscle strengthening and flexibility with methods such as exercises and massage.
Painkillers and Anti-Inflammatory Drugs:
Painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs taken on the advice of a doctor can help control the pain.
Hot and Cold Application: Hot or cold applications can relieve pain and reduce muscle spasms.
Exercise Programmes: Appropriate exercise programmes for the management of low back pain can increase muscle strength and support the spine.

Surgical Treatment Methods:
Discectomy:
In case of disc herniation (hernia), it is a surgical procedure to remove the disc contents.
Laminectomy:
In a condition that compresses the spinal cord, it involves the removal of bone tissue on the spinal cord to reduce pressure on the spinal cord.
Fusion Surgery:
A surgical procedure in which two vertebrae are joined together to stabilise a segment of the spinal cord.
Replacement Surgery (Arthroplasty):
It involves replacing a damaged disc with an artificial disc.
Surgical treatment is usually considered a last resort and is recommended when other treatment methods have failed or in specific cases. In the case of low back pain, it is important to create an individualised treatment plan.
